Step 2: Try Them On at Home

Welcome to the first day of your signature wedding scent discovery journey. Your experience of these fragrances will evolve as time passes, so it is important to prepare yourself for the sampling process by using the enclosed folding cards. Embrace the need to move slowly, giving your nose the time it needs to truly discern the nuances and complexities of each scent over time.

The cards will become your sorting deck and ultimately lead you to “the one.” Each scent has a corresponding card to use as a place- holder for the special memory magic created by each sample. Although it will smell slightly different than when applied to your skin, in the end the card will help to remind you and narrow your choices when it is time to make your selection.

Starting with number 1, apply a generous spritz to the card with the #1 on it. If the scent intrigues you, apply it to your skin. Count to 10 — fragrance needs time to open up — then close your eyes, and take a mindful whiff. Continue experiencing the scent for as long as you are inspired to. 

Before moving on to scent 2, write down a few words that describe your first impression, how it makes you feel, & any thoughts or memories it brings. Now, take the time to clear your palette. Smell something familiar, like a shirt or other piece of clothing that is unscented.

Contrary to popular belief, coffee beans are a poor substitute for the baseline your simple daily clothing provides your nose to reset your olfactory palette. When moving on to the next sample, give yourself more than a few minutes before repeating the process. And after you are through all 8, we suggest wearing your top 2-3 choices for an entire day, making notes for each, before considering the smelling journey complete.
