Scent #6: Church of light

A Sacred Journey Through Scent
This scent was inspired by many childhood road trips through Europe—Italy, Czechoslovakia, Austria, France - where our family would always stop and pause at churches and cathedrals. These places were often filled with a loud silence, quiet reverence and I could feel the centuries of sacred ritual. I remember walking through their heavy wooden doors into cool stone vast room, loving how the light emerged through mostly colored glass vindows. Often lit by the flicker of candles, the air thick with incense and wax, softened books and cold marble. It wasn’t just a scent—it was a moment suspended in time. Sitting down quietly. Meditating for a minute.
It opens with bergamot and elemi, clear and elevating, like sunlight through stained glass. Then comes frankincense, wood-polished and citrus-laced, followed by the sacred resins: labdanum and spicy myrrh, aged and balsamic, along with Hinoki and Virginian Cedar.
As it deepens, galbanum absolute, and a trace of muguet lend green brightness to the heart. The base is shadowed and reverent. Vetiver, labdanum, and Bois d’encre feel like stone and smoke. Choya Ral adds a leathery incense finish, while hydrocarboresine threads everything together with its deep sweetness.
It wears like a quiet ceremony. Each note unfolding like a breath taken slowly. Breathe and remember.
